ESG is a term that we are hearing more and more due to the current food shortage crisis in the 21st century. ESG stands for Environmental Social Governance, which translates to the impact that the products that we manufacture, sell or buy have on our planet, our people and our corporations.
Did you know that about 8% of green gas emissions are caused by food waste? Reducing and preventing food waste can help the food shortage crisis that is now threatening the safety and economic stability of our country and our world.
According to a recent report by Supermarket News, Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, sustainability has remained at the forefront of American consumers’ concerns, with 69% of supermarket shoppers saying they try to reduce their impact on the environment as much as possible, but what are we doing in or communities to educate our customers and our families to be responsible in our environment?
Here are four ways that we can help our world.
If we can reduce our intake of food purchase, that is the first thing we can do to ensure food doesn’t go to waste!
As you go down the list- you can see other ways that we can make sure we don’t waste food which include: feeding the hungry (have you even thought about carrying an extra sandwich in your bag versus throwing out food at the end of the week?)
Feeding Animals- If you don’t have furry paws at home that can help you utilize the extra food in your pantry, try donating it to a local farm!
As we go down the list, another easy thing we can do at home is composting. You can compost organic waste and use this in your garden!
